Shakti Face and Body Resculpting® Cream

As I described in Red Carpet Green Beauty, I was shocked to learn that this line was natural and non-toxic. The products perform and feel like conventional prestige skincare, with the same great slip and elegant formulas. Not so shocking, however, when you realize they had to rival the best non-green brands: Tracie Martyn skin care and its eponymous salon in Manhattan cater to those who are constantly in the spotlight. When your face is your biggest asset, you don’t entrust just anyone with it. Actors, models, designers and anyone who’s in the business of looking beautiful or making people beautiful make up a good portion of Tracie Martyn’s client base.

What It Does
I love a product that multitasks. Shakti Face and Body Resculpting® Cream is a moisturizer for face and body as well as a makeup primer. And not just any moisturizer: it lifts and tightens the skin on the face, jawline, neck, and body. The product used to be called Resculpting Body Cream®, but Tracie Martyn’s clients started using it on their face and neck and saw the same results they were seeing on their body. So the company rebranded it as Face and Body Resculpting® Cream. Tracie, who worked for years as a makeup artist, realized it was also an excellent base for makeup and began to spread the word.

In case you’re wondering, “Shakti" is Sanskrit for "transformative energy”. The cream is light but super moisturizing and provides enough hydration for most skin types, except perhaps those with very dry skin. It comes out from the pump in a soft white color (see picture below), and as soon as I apply it becomes invisible and my skin soaks it up. On my face, I don’t need to wait for the shine to disappear or apply powder to tone it down. It makes getting ready much faster. I would describe it as a matte lotion, which is why it’s an ideal base for makeup: it absorbs instantly and leaves zero greasy residue, so your makeup won’t move around during the day.

Why I Love the Ingredients

  • Tracie Martyn’s proprietary blend of enzymes, amino acids and organic green tea help to firm the skin and improve the appearance of dimpled skin;
  • Black currant seed oil provides natural moisture that absorbs quickly, without leaving an oily residue on the skin;
  •  The star ingredient is the Trehalose molecule - a sugar found in plants and fungi that has unique rehydrating and water binding properties. It also provides antioxidant benefits. Trehalose allows the skin to retain moisture that it would otherwise lose, providing long-lasting hydration.
  • Organic Bulgarian Rose essential oil provides antioxidant activity and a relaxing aromatherapy experience.

The Results
So does it do what it claims? Yes, provided you keep your expectations realistic. This isn’t going to replace any type of invasive procedure like injectables or surgery. But it will make the skin on your face and body look smoother, more plump and more taut. It will give your skin long-lasting hydration. And it will keep your makeup in place beautifully. It manages to achieve all of this while being natural, non-toxic and eco-friendly. Which is why it’s become my go-to moisturizer: I keep the larger size at home and the regular size for traveling. Once you try it, I’m pretty sure you’ll be wondering how you ever lived without it.
