Treat Collection Gentle Nail Polish Remover

It used to be that removing your nail polish meant removing the natural oils in your nails and cuticles too. The active ingredient in nail polish remover is acetone - a solvent that’s powerful but also very drying. That’s why acetone-based nail polish removers leave a white cast on the nails and surrounding skin: it’s a tell-tale sign that our nails and skin have been stripped dry.

Thankfully, we now have alternatives to acetone. A handful of indie beauty brands have developed products that thoroughly remove nail polish using natural oils and gentle solvents. My current favorite is Treat Collection’s Gentle Nail Polish Remover.

Based in Berlin and LA, Treat Collection is a line of nail polishes, nail care products and lipcolors, all of which are 5-free and gluten free. The Gentle Nail Polish Remover uses gentle solvents like soybean esters to remove nail polish, with no resulting damage to the nail and cuticle. What’s more, it acts as a nourishing nail treatment with its blend of argan kernel oil and vitamins A, C and E.

Here’s how to use it:

  • saturate a cotton ball or pad with the product, then use it to wipe all your nails one by one;
  • wait at least 20-30 seconds for the product to be absorbed;
  • saturate a new cotton ball or pad (or as many as needed) and wipe each nail until all the polish is removed.

The key is allowing the product to absorb into the nails and cuticles for 20-30 seconds so the argan oil and vitamins can penetrate. The result is healthier nails and soft, moisturized cuticles. It actually leaves your nails and surrounding skin looking and feeling better. And that is a treat indeed!
